On the evening of 16th May 1943, nineteen Lancaster bombers and their crews departed Royal Air Force (RAF) Station Scamption in Lincolnshire, England for Nazi Germany. Not only did they attempt to fly deep into enemy territory on one of the most audacious raids of the Second World War, but they were destined also to become one of the greatest legends in world military aviation history - they were the dams raiders of 617 Squadron who became the 'Dambusters.' The story of the Dambusters is very much in the spirit of 'Best of British Daring Do,' combining the finest attributes of courageous war-fighting men with both exceptional and innovative skills as Lancaster bomber crews. The attack against the German dams brought toghter the best of thinking in strategy, ingenutity, design brilliance and, in particular, both gallantry and determination. This new limited edition set based on the famous photograph of Guy Gibson and his crew about to board their Lancaster, commemorates the 70th Anniversary of this momentous raid.
